Where your words go,in plain English.

This page covers veraisreal.com and the free demo. The Windows founder build works differently, so it has its own section. Last updated October 1, 2026.

VERA is an AI, and safety comes first.

VERA is an AI, not a person, and she says so whenever you ask. She isn’t a therapist, a doctor or an emergency service.

If you tell her you’re thinking about suicide or hurting yourself, she’s instructed to step out of the conversation, respond with care, and point you to the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline (call or text 988 in the US) or to local emergency services. If you’re in danger right now, call 911 or your local emergency number.

VERA is designed for adults 18 and over.

Conversations use cloud AI.

When you talk or type to the demo, your message and the recent conversation go through our Cloudflare service to Anthropic, whose Claude models write VERA’s replies. The demo doesn’t run on your device.

If you’ve done the demo’s short getting-to-know-you interview, your name, your saved answers and your latest check-in can be included as context, so she can greet you properly. Some of your interview answers are also sent to the AI to connect them.

Voice and images follow your choices.

Typing never needs the microphone. If you turn voice on, the demo uses your browser’s own speech recognition where it can; in Chrome, that sends your audio to Google. Other voice paths send a recording through Cloudflare to be transcribed.

Her spoken replies are made by sending the text to Microsoft Azure Speech or to speech models running on Cloudflare. A few fixed lines are prerecorded. If those aren’t available, your browser’s own voice may read the reply, which can involve an online service depending on your browser.

If you choose to share a camera or screen image, that image and the conversation go through Cloudflare to Anthropic for a reply. Allowing the microphone never shares images.

What the demo saves stays in your browser.

If you do the getting-to-know-you interview (the demo calls the result your brain map), it saves your name, your answers, how they connect and your check-ins in this browser’s local storage, along with a few preferences like sound. If you play Adventure mode, your story in progress is saved there too. None of it is backed up to our servers, and clearing this site’s data in your browser deletes it.

Local doesn’t mean it never leaves the browser. Those saved details can travel with your conversations, as described above. The site may also cache pages and prerecorded voice clips so they load faster next time.

The founders list keeps two things.

When you join, from any signup form on this site or in the demo, we store your email address and the date you signed up, in Cloudflare. We use it to email you about early access and the Guardian Line.

Signups don’t expire on their own. To be removed, email vera@veraisreal.com from the address you signed up with.

A few services make the demo work.

GitHub Pages hosts the site. Cloudflare runs the demo’s service. The demo pages load their display font from Google Fonts; the rest of the website hosts its own fonts. Each of these receives basic network information, like your IP address, to deliver what you asked for.

During her showcase, the demo fetches public market prices from CoinGecko and sports scores from ESPN, straight from your browser. Nothing about you is sent beyond those same network details.

To keep the free demo fair, Cloudflare keeps a daily usage count per IP address for about 25 hours. Repeated abuse can earn a temporary block of up to seven days. Each provider keeps its own logs under its own policy, so we can’t promise zero retention.

If you’ve already allowed the demo to use your location, it may fetch local weather from Open-Meteo using your coordinates, and a weather summary may come up in conversation. The site never asks for your location just for this.

There’s no advertising on this site, and no analytics trackers.

The Windows founder build keeps memory on your PC.

On your PC, VERA’s memory is a set of plain files on your own computer. When a conversation or task needs them, relevant memories or file contents are sent to the AI provider that writes her replies. While watch-along is on, glances at your screen are sent too.

Keeping memory on your PC doesn’t mean every step happens there: her thinking uses a cloud AI provider. The website doesn’t sync your desktop memory anywhere.

You stay in charge.

  • Type instead of talking, and the microphone stays off.
  • Share an image only when you want her to see it.
  • Turn off microphone, camera or location permissions in your browser settings at any time.
  • Clear this site’s data to delete your saved details, your adventure and your preferences.
  • Email us to remove your signup or to ask a privacy question.

AI replies can be wrong. Please don’t share passwords, payment details, or anything you wouldn’t want these services to process.
